View Selected InventoryAbout Jobillo
Jobillo — traded internationally as Kingwood, Jobillo, or Jacote fraile — carries a russet, orange, or reddish-brown base marked with striking, irregular dark brown or black marbling that only deepens with age. The grain is often interlocked or wavy, with a fine, uniform texture and a natural luster carried by the wood's high oil and resin content. That same oil content is part of what makes it so durable: highly resistant to moisture, decay, mold, and insect attack, with excellent weathering properties overall. It's a moderately hard, dense wood — not difficult to work in general, though figured pieces with irregular grain can pose a real challenge during planing, and the natural oils that give it such a smooth polish can make gluing less straightforward than usual. Turns and finishes beautifully once you've worked past the density.

- Moderately difficult to work due to density; interlocked grain can cause tear-out during planing. Turns and finishes smoothly thanks to natural oils, though this same oil content can make gluing more difficult.
